Purebred Ragdoll Kittens Are Amazing Family Pets: How To Avoid Getting Scammed

Investing in a purebred Ragdoll kitten is a complex decision. When is my family ready to introduce a new Ragdoll kitten into the home? What gender is the best fit for my situation? What color and pattern kitten should we get: Seal mitted, seal point, seal bicolor, blue mitted, blue point, blue bicolor, tortie, torbie, lilac, chocolate, and the list goes on…However, the most important question after narrowing down your timeline, gender, color, and pattern of your desired TICA or CFA registered purebred Ragdoll kitten is, What breeder should we go with? Or better yet, is the person I am talking to a breeder at all? Unfortunately, do get calls saying that ‘I was just scammed’ or ‘thank goodness I found you, you wouldn’t believe how many scammy looking websites I needed to sift through to find you.’ I ran recently ran across an informational post for cat buyers put out by TICA - The International Cat Association: The Pet Buyer’s Guide - How To Avoid Scams. In my opinion, it offers great practices to ensure your investment is well placed. I always encourage potential clients to go straight for a discovery call with me so we can see if there is a good match. First, it allows me to see if the client is serious, but more importantly it gives the buyer great perspective into cattery. By asking some simple questions, a buyer is able to evaluate the credibility of the cattery. Another important factor that distinguishes Danu Ragdolls from others is we love to host cattery visits. Kitten energy is the best and we love to have the community visit! New faces, smells, and sizes or humans increases our kittens’ socialization factor. It’s a win-win! Additionally, the TICA article suggests, “Visit the breeder in person, if possible, to see the conditions in which the animals are raised.” Our cats and kittens are our pets. They sleep in our beds and are loved on daily. Danu Ragdolls provides many forms of health records to our clients such as the annual Snap ELISA Test which offers confidence that our animals are free from infectious diseases like Feline Leukemia, Feline Aids, and Heart Worm. We also conduct genetic testing to ensure our breeding stock do not have markers for PDK or HCM. There are some great breeders out there who love the Ragdoll breed and are waiting to support your families goals. Doing your due diligence by thoroughly vetting the breeders you are considering working with is your best offense to protect yourself from getting scammed.

Walnut is a new addition to our breeding program at Danu Ragdolls. She is a seal bicolor and will look just like Benjamin Button Swift. Benjamin is Taylor Swift’s Ragdoll who was featured with her on the cover of Time Magazine in December of 2023. Walnut is true to the Ragdoll breed. Ragdolls are born all white and their color begins to show within about 5 days after birth. By one year old, her coloring will darken to more resemble Swift’s Benjamin, however Ragdolls can take between 2-4 years to reach physical maturity. Walnut of Danu Ragdolls has impressive blue eyes, an amazing personality, and a silky soft coat. She is affectionate, mildy talkative, and desires to be in the same room as any human in the home. If hanging out with the kids playing legos, or cooking in the kitchen with me, or sleeping by my side at night isn’t enough, in this moment as I type this blog post, Walnut is nuzzled into my right foot on the floor under my desk. Ragdolls have the personality that converts “Dog only people” to “Dog and okay your cat is cool” people. We look forward to seeing the amazing kittens Walnut will create next year!
